Medicare Better Access
The Better Access to Psychiatrists, Psychologists and General Practitioners through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (Better Access) initiative aims to improve outcomes for people with a clinically diagnosed mental disorder through evidence based treatment. Under this initiative, Medicare rebates are available to patients for selected mental health services provided by general practitioners (GPs), psychiatrists, psychologists (clinical and registered) and eligible social workers and occupational therapists.

How does it work?
To be eligible to receive psychological services under Medicare, a person must be referred by his or her GP and in some instances by another medical specialist.
Speak to your GP about your eligibility to claim these Medicare benefits and the best person to make your referral.

Steps to take.
Make a booking with your GP to discuss a Mental Health Care Plan (MH CP). Your doctor will require a longer consultation to allow for the plan to be completed.
Take your MHCP along with the intake paperwork you received from your school, and return it to the school administration, or email it to us at info@bkids.com.au
You will then be contacted by one of our qualified psychologists to discuss your initial appointment.
Initial treatments are for 6 sessions, and your psychologist will complete a treatment report for your doctor. If further treatment is recommended, you will be asked to book another consultation with your doctor to allow for a Review Mental Health Care Plan to be put in place. This entitles a further 4 consultations.
At the conclusion of the treatment, a closure letter is provided to your doctor.
